Our Alumni network is a huge aspect of our club. We have connections with members as far back as 1965, when the Men’s 1st XI won the UAU Championship (BUCS equivalent). Our connections from the past 20 years of the club are stronger than ever and we celebrate this at our biannual Alumni Ball, which hosted over 300 attendees at our latest gathering in September 2021. We keep our alumni updated via two newsletters a year sharing our successes on the pitch, in community work, at social events, team photos and much more. Our main platforms of communication are through our Facebook Page and LinkedIn, though many relationships are also maintained on a personal level as well.
We have many alumni with international honours including Rob Clift who won Olympic Gold in 1988 for GB. To view all of our international honours please click the buttons below.
1965 UAU Cup Winners
Richard ‘Dick’ Barnes (bottom left, and pictured with cup) was the Men’s 1st XI Captain in 1965 when the team played Newcastle University in the UAU Cup Final. The game ended in a draw, and since penalty strokes weren’t yet in the rules, the Cup was shared between the sides. Below, you can see Dick enjoying the celebrations whist wearing his Captains blazer.
We are very lucky to have alumni that still wish to support the club even after they have left the university. They offer financial support through sponsorship and donations, allowing us to keep developing the club in all areas. Some donations are made with a request of what it’s put towards, as they feel it will help current members create similar memories to the ones they treasure most. Other donations are made to the general club and funds will be used in the most effective way to help the committee reach their goals.
To find out more about the donation system and how the club benefits see our Donations page.
