Here is your Men’s 1s season summary ππ
The tropics had a slow start to their national league campaign but picked up form heading into Christmas and remained unbeaten until the final game of the season. This saw them finish third in division one north with lots of learning and growth throughout the year.
They were unbeaten in BUCs until narrowly loosing 3-2 to Loughborough in the last game of the league to finish 2nd in the table on head-to-head results.
This gave them a home semi against Exeter, which they dominated, with a 3-0 victory. Made more impressive with David Wood, the goalkeeper, getting a yellow card in the second quarter for misconduct.
On to the highlight of the season. The tropics faced Loughborough in the BUCs championship final, having lost 3 times previously in the season the boys had a debt to pay. Having gone 2-0 down, they fought back in the last quarter courtesy of Buck and Anderson to take the game to shuffles. George Baugniet scored the winner before the Nottingham crowd bought the fence down in celebration.
Player of the season was awarded to George Baugniet, leading the team on and off the pitch, captaining the tropics back to their rightful place as the no.1 university side in the UK.

Here is your men’s 7s season summary ππ
BUCS - Last year’s success and subsequent promotion resulted in a sharp wake up call early in the season with 0 points from the first 3 games. The boys then bounced back, taking points in 6 of the 7 remaining games to maintain our position in division 3. Despite the difficult start, the season can be considered a success with survival and momentum has been built towards next year.
Weekend league - combined with the 6s, the 6.5s enjoyed a brilliant season all round. Securing promotion in the league with a superb record in the first half of the season. The league success carried strong momentum into the cup. The tier 4 cup saw similar early success, reaching the quarterfinals shortly after Christmas. Well fought wins over West Hampstead and City of Manchester in the quarter and semi final respectively lead to a well fought final at Lee Valley. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as we fell at the final hurdle and lost on shuffles. Despite this it was an exceptional season and taking a 6s team to a national final demonstrates that.
Player of the Season - Ashin Shah.
The man between the sticks came into his own this season. From a somewhat quiet season in tier 4 last year, every BUCS point this year can be attributed to his top class performances. A particular standout performance was Tr*nt 5s away, stealing a draw against the league leaders despite a constant barrage from their front line. It cannot be overstated how important Ashin has been to both the 7s and 6.5s seasons this year.
Highlight of the season - first BUCS win 4-3 vs Lincoln (H).
Between the Stags and 6.5s season there have been many highlights but the undisputed high point was the win against Lincoln. Having lost 5-1 at theirs in the first game of the season we knuckled down to what promised to be a tough game. Taking some momentum from our first point the previous week we played out an end to end game with a final minute winner securing the three points and showing the progress we made it the short time since the start of the season.
Overall, the Stags have enjoyed a successful season and can look to build on this and progress next year.

Huge congratulations to men’s 1s player Max Anderson for winning men’s junior performance player of the year at the England hockey awards! π

The BUCS League was tough for us this year, as we got demoted. However, we were promoted in weekend league which was great. Our highlight of the season was getting to the final of our weekend league cup at Lee Valley. Unfortunately we lost narrowly in the majority of our BUCS games although we did stop Trent from getting promoted. Finally the player of the year award goes to Wilbur Guildford - He has been solid all year round in the midfield. Not scared of a crash ball in the last few minutes.
- The words of 6s captain Toby Menzies

Here is your men’s 5s Season Summary ππ
This year has been a competitive and successful year for the Funky Fives. Despite some challenges and some unlucky results in BUCS we finished 5th in a league where any team could have won. A few late season results also saw us narrowly miss out on promotion in the weekend league, finishing 3rd. Highlight of the season has to be beating luff 5s last game of the season at home with a last minute winner. Player of the season is Tom Sweeney for his skills on and off the pitch. - Harry Beard
